Exporting Video to Iphone

All lot has been said in loads and loads of forums about resizing video for the iphone screen ..what resolution what bit rate etc etc....

To be honest if your an Apple user (they do a version of QT for Pc users as well) the simplest method is Quicktime (if your like me and have QT pro off course)

As the screenshot shows you just open your Avi file in QT and select export ..and choose Iphone from the drop down menu of default settings ..and voila ...it's exported to a folder of your choice.

In my case I just drag and drop the exported file into the Itunes Movies window ..and then sync with my IPhone the file I've exported ..and voila ...done.

Facebook and Iphone

Scan through the installer, and locate the facebook app (You can just perform search on the installer and type 'Facebook' - it's a tad quicker!)

Download the app to your Iphone and then it will ask you to 'sign in' .

Now here's the rub , up until I installed the 'fix' for the IPlayer (see previous blog post) the 'log in' screen kept coming up everytime I moved tabs ...which was a tad frustrating as you can imagine , but a knock on effect of installing that 'patch' is it no longer keeps asking me to log in ...so 'instant' facebook on a Wi-Fi hotspot.

IPhone BBC IPlayer Fix

The link will tell you to use the installer to add a new 'source' to your Installer (This only applies to Jailbroken IPhones), follow the instructions as per the link , and then Turn the Iphone off and back on - and voila Iplayer live ... ahhh I can chill out to the sky at night at last.

If like me you were getting the 'Error cannot play movie' dialogue box this will brighten your day immensely :)

Thoughts on the Iphone

Well it's been a few days now with the iPhone, so time for some reality to add to the WOW that happened when I opened the box last week.

First things first as a mobile phone it works in a pretty slick manner , though if your a fan of MMS you'll be disappointed because it doesn't work out of the box, there is a work around on 'jailbroken' iPhones but to be honest it's just confusing and I can't be assed to do terminal commands anymore.
Standard txt msg'ing though is a dream come true for those of you familiar with iChat or for that sake MSN messenger (spit) it remembers your txt Msg's as conversations so that's makes keeping up with the 'thread' of the txting a breeze. So ten out of ten for that implimentation.

The email is pretty fantastic full email preview complete with links that are clickable and also the graphics/pictures that are embedded in the mail eg : amazon /hmv mails look and behave exactly like they do your computer.

Text input on handheld devices ala the 'Palm' has always been bit of a bugbear , let's face it take away somebody's kybd and the long faces and complaints about bloody gadgets start. Well you ain't seen nothing yet ladies and gentlemen till you typed txt on an iphone everything else you've used with or without stylus is just soooooo last year!
it corrects your typing as you go along by working out which key you really wanted to hit and when you hit the space bar as I am now while I type this txt it inserts the word it thinks you really intended to type its got to be seen to believed it's brilliant.

Well that's a few thoughts for the moment on how me and the iPhone are getting along more to come as it does have a few more tricks up its sleeve, so bye for now.

Ps: did I tell you if you hit the spacebar twice as in ala double clicking it inserts a '.' (period/full stop) ;)

iPhone blogging.

Well mobile blogging with the aid of my wireless network, so mobile blogging from my front room LOL

Sat here using my wireless network to stream music into the front room (so who says technology can't help you chill :)

So if you or in my case ME have access to a wireless network I can update my blog , mind you txt only at the moment as I've not worked out a way to upload the photos I take with the iPhone to the blog - if I could do that now that would be cool!

Live big Screen HD Dolby 5.1 Formula 1 ..now there's a thought!

The Odeon cinema chain are doing Live F1 races on the big screen (see link in title), I was very interested till I found out it's £15.00 a ticket!!!
Still would be pretty good in HD and Dolby 5.1!!!

Mind you if the BBC get their act together and transmit the races in HD next season that would be pretty cool.

Iphone has landed...well into my hands anyway!

Wow is the only word for the Iphone (ok I'm a mac - freak/geek/nerd/fanatic/head/fanboy/lover etc etc) but having said that it is just pure sex with an apple logo on it...how does apple do it? they just design 'purity' and package it in the 'warmth' of usability.
Needless to say I think it's pretty cool :)

The picture was taken with the iphone built in camera , which I have to say is better than I thought it would be.

Anyway this explains why the blog has not been updated for a few days ..that and other things (like life) have got in the way .....normal service will be resumed shortly.

Using your Iphone as an Itunes Remote control (a'la Salling Clicker)

If like me you stream your music round the house with Airport express, it's rather annoying that you can only set up the computer to play a playlist, then settle down in say your front room , and realise you want to play a completely different 'mood' of track, In the past I used 'Salling Clicker' on my Ericsson Mobile to do the task via bluetooth.

Well strangely enough on the Iphone this software is not compatible so hence the link to Signal, The program uses filesharing on your host (Main) computer to do the task and hence your Wi-fi network , a bit of fiddling with your system settings (no Terminal commands here!) and voila ..your away ...well allegedly! - can't confirm because I've not tested it yet lol.

Another program that uses the same way of accessing your Itunes library (and playing back over the computer or Airport Express speakers) is 'Remote Buddy' this is slightly more involved with your mac as it allows you to control presentations as well but maybe a bit more than need as to be honest.
I would just want to control my Itunes library remotely.

Stream Movies to your iphone - with a bit of Terminal commands!

Well the Iphone is coming not here yet - due to bizarre SIM problems that I won't bore you all with.

But on a research note, I've been looking into streaming the movies that i have on my G5 (home Computer) over my Wi-Fi network to my (imminent) Iphone, as the idea of doing that is pretty cool !

Anyway i will be trying that hopefully soon !
